Chancellor’s Update

Great things are happening at UTC!

UTC women’s basketball is ranked 20th in the AP Top 25 and 22nd in the USA Today Sports Top 25 women’s basketball coaches’ poll. As of Monday’s win against Western Carolina, the team’s record is 23-3 overall and 11-0 in the SoCon. The last home game is Saturday, February 28th against East Tennessee State. Come out and cheer on the Mocs!

Last Thursday I met with the MLK, Lyndhurst, Lincoln Park and Fort Wood neighborhoods to discuss UTC’s future plans for campus facilities. This meeting fostered a lively and productive discussion with our neighbors that will continue in the future. If you would like to see the presentation, please visit the Chancellor’s Messages page at; the PowerPoint is the first link: Campus Update presentation – Community Meeting February 12, 2015.

The Strategic Planning Steering Committee reached a consensus at its meeting on February 11th and will soon forward the strategic plan to me. Moving forward I will hold meetings with campus constituents regarding specific aspects of the plan, most notably online education. The plan will then be forwarded to The University of Tennessee Board of Trustees for approval. If you would like to see the current draft of our strategic plan, it is available on our website at

The Budget Reallocation process is continuing and a Budget Town Hall meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 20th from 10:00-11:30 a.m., location to be determined. You will receive a separate email reminder with time and location via UTCINFO closer to the event.

February is Black History Month and UTC is celebrating with several events. Tonight is Mahogany Movie Night featuring the movie Brother 2 Brother from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the Multicultural Center located in the University Center. Next week there are several events including a poetry night and an on-campus discussion about the movie Selma. More details and a list of Black History Month events can be found at
