Campus Colleagues,
Congratulations UTC! We are within sight of the final two weeks of instruction in COVID-impacted fall semester 2020. Congratulations to each and every member of the UTC community. Our success thus far is a testament to our team approach and the commitment, knowledge, hard work, and incredible efforts of our faculty, staff, and students. I am so proud to be a part of this great university.
As we were planning for fall 2020 back in the summer, we focused on maintaining the quality of our academic programs and protecting the health and safety of our campus community. These will continue to be our priorities for spring 2021.
As we prepare to finish one semester and look toward another, people are tired. This has been a year like no other. The COVID-19 pandemic has required an enormous amount of energy, creativity, and perseverance. Together we have redefined what it means to be a Moc. Thank you!
In addition to saying thank you, I want to share a few announcements and reminders.
Alternate Scheduling and Work from Home Arrangements
Changes made to the academic calendar this year established the final date of instruction for students in the fall as November 21 and the first date of instruction for the spring semester as January 19. During this break between instructional terms, we are encouraging our campus administrators to identify opportunities for alternate scheduling and utilization of work-from-home arrangements to the extent feasible to enable a continued focus on social distancing and slowing the spread of COVID-19 as we prepare for a new semester.
Each member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) will be communicating with their division in the coming days to establish work schedules during this timeframe that support each unit’s operational needs and help us prepare the campus for a safe and successful spring semester.
Deferred Labor Day Holiday Expires December 31, 2020
This is a reminder to schedule your deferred Labor Day holiday before it expires December 31, 2020. This year, to support modification of the Academic Calendar, Labor Day was not a typical holiday day off; faculty and staff worked on this day. Instead of the Labor Day holiday, 12-month faculty and benefits-eligible staff received a “deferred holiday” that will expire December 31, 2020. Exempt and nonexempt employees using the holiday should also record hours on the day of the absence using the deferred holiday absence types of DH1, DH2, and DH3. Please contact the UTC Office of Human Resources with questions regarding the deferred holiday.
We all need to continue to be vigilant with handwashing, wearing masks and social distancing. Please visit the UTC COVID-19 UPDATES site for additional information.
