The UTC Fall 2020 Task Force has completed its work and finalized their report, which provides recommendations for resuming face-to-face instruction and on campus operations for the fall semester. I want to thank the Task Force, subcommittee members and co-chairs Executive Vice Chancellor Richard Brown and Dean Robert Dooley for completion of this important report in a very short period of time.
The full Fall 2020 Task Force Report can be found at https://www.utc.edu/Fall-2020-Task-Force-Committee-Final-Report.
The report has been reviewed by the UTC Campus Leadership Group and has been moved forward to an implementation team. The implementation team will be led by Executive Vice Chancellor Brown, Vice Chancellor Yancy Freeman and Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor Jerold Hale.
Specific recommendations and action plans will be rolled out over the next two months, but several important decisions already have been made.
- Fall classes at UTC will begin August 17 and end before Thanksgiving. Final exams will be online December 2-8, as originally scheduled.
- Classes will meet on Labor Day, September 7, and the semester will not include a fall break.
- Students, faculty, staff and visitors will be required to wear face masks and practice social distancing in all settings—classrooms, workspaces, common areas, dining spaces and campus housing.
We will continue to adopt measures to protect the health and safety of the campus community that align with guidance from the CDC and the Tennessee and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Departments of Health. If circumstances make it necessary to revisit our processes or approaches, we will do so with the health and safety of our community the top priority.
If each of us does our part, we can make this work and resume campus operations while we protect the health and safety of our campus community. We will define the “new normal” working together as a team.
GO MOCS!!
