Channel 3 News in Chattanooga had a story on President Trump’s tariffs and how they might affect the local economy. CRER director Howard Wall was featured and said that “The people who are going to be effected the most are households who are going to be paying much higher prices for some goods. Thousands of dollars for cars and some food will just not be available.”
He went on to question where the resources would come from for the US to produce goods domestically: “Are we going to produce more clothing for ourselves? Factory jobs are not nearly as good as the jobs people currently have.”
“We’re currently fully employed. So, where are those people going to come from? Are people going to lose their jobs in the financial sector and go to work in a garment factory in North Carolina?”
