UTC lecturer, Andrew J. Van Slyke, is leading students in an underwater archaeological survey of the Tennessee River. Van Slyke leads UTC’s first Maritime Archaeological Methods Field School (ANTH4300), where students use remote sensing equipment to search for the remains of steamboats and Civil War–era wrecks in Chattanooga. Additionally, UTC students are helping Van Slyke survey for Fort Henry, an earthen fort crucial to the Union’s victory during the Civil War, and two to four possible train wrecks in Loudon that were driven into the Tennessee River during the war. >>>Watch>>>
