Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton is proposing monthly stipends for student teachers to help ease financial burdens and address teacher shortages statewide. UTC education major Grace Hixson said the support would help cover basic expenses during unpaid student teaching. Dr. Kim Wingate, director of UTC’s School of Education, noted the stipends could provide critical support for teacher candidates.
