University of Tennessee at Chattanooga engineering students designed and built a concrete canoe as part of a hands-on project, then raced it against a traditional rowing shell in the inaugural “Athletes vs. Engineers” event on the Tennessee River. Despite its roughly 1,000-pound weight, the canoe demonstrated impressive buoyancy and durability.
