The new workstations are being installed this week. In order to reclaim some desk space, we are using a setup that has the CPU box attached to the back of the monitor. This leads to a couple things that will be helpful to know:
- Due to the smaller size of these workstations, they can only have a DVD-ROM/CD-ROM drive OR a floppy drive. At this time they all have DVD/CD drives installed. Floppy drives will still be available on the reference desk wing PCs and on the 2nd and 3rd floor workstations. The DVD/CD drive is located behind the monitor on the right
- The power switch for the computer is also behind the monitor on the right. Two USB ports and the headphone jack are also located there.
- There are USB ports on the left edge of the monitor.
Please use the installation of DVD/CD drives instead of floppy drives to encourage our patrons to use USB key/thumb drives. USB key/thumb drives are more reliable and have a greater storage capacity than floppy drives. As of a couple of weeks ago, the UTC bookstore finally had some for a decent price. They can also be found at many stores and online for quite cheap, too.
Please stop by and take a look at the workstations. Let Stephen know if you have any questions or suggestions.
