After about an hour with UTC PD and Fire & Rescue, I have placed out of order signs again on our problem public elevator. I’ve moved trash cans in front of it on each floor. We cannot prop a door because it will not open when called. The emergency team managed to get a patron out of the elevator cab that was again stuck between 1st and 2nd floor. (Many patrons were taking cell phone pictures of the struggle so don’t be surprised if you see our elevator in the Echo or another paper.) Mike Bell was here for the event and left me with instructions to place that side of the elevator out of order. He will follow up with Theresa tomorrow. Please do not remove the signs or trash cans unless word comes from one of them.
I would be more concerned with how the campus would view the fact that we the library, campus PD, the CFD and campus facilities have no ability to shut down a faulty elevator so that the functioning can still be used. That is the issue that has needed to be resolved.
I just saw the elevator guy leaving out the front door…the left elevator seems to be functioning again. I give it a few hours before the problem occurs again.
