Hi All,
Just wanted to give everyone an update on WMS. So, here goes…
Andrea should have the first part of the data load packaged up and sent off to OCLC tomorrow afternoon. She has been putting in some long hours getting everything updated and corrected in order to get our item data over to OCLC in the best possible format.
In this endeavor, she has been assisted by several folks in the library, and I want to say thanks to them too: Martha Rawlings, Valarie Adams, Beverly Kutz, & Charlie Remy. We may need some other folks to help out tomorrow.
Access staff were trained in the basics of WMS circulation by Laird yesterday. Cheryl, Sherlin, Carla, Layton, Lisa, Martha, Heather, Susan, and Will (sorry if I missed someone) now know how to check in, check out, place holds, look up patrons, and look up items. Keep practicing at your desks. You have until Tuesday to do this. Then we will continue practicing in a test system. More information to come from Laird and Colleen on this.
Acquisitions staff have been learning how to order and receive monographs. This is quite a tedious task. Thanks to Anna, Lisa, Charlie, and Martha for your patience. More training will be forthcoming on how to order and receive multi-part monographs and serials. We will also be working on coming up with workflows for the ordering procedures.
We will be ramping up work on WC Local and Reserves in the coming weeks. So, look for more information on that. Planning will also be underway for transitioning to WMS on July 1.
For the time being, all work in Virtua for Acquisitions has halted. So, if you see lots of boxes piling up in the back–excuse the mess. All non-necessary changes for patrons via Circ in Virtua will halt soon too, but that will be next week.
When I have more information to share, I will do it here! Again, thanks to everyone for your help and willingness to lend a hand and put up with my blank stares when you ask me a question. 🙂
