As you know, the GoPrint station now displays UTCIDs instead of Computer ID numbers. So, when a patron sends a job to the printer, they now need to select their UTCID on the screen at the GoPrint station in order to release their print jobs. This has lead to two distinct issues…
(1) First, it is quite common for students to forget to log out when they leave a computer, thereby allowing the next student to start working without having to log in. If that second student sends a job to the printer, GoPrint will have the job listed under the first student’s UTCID (because he/she didn’t log out). If the second student has not logged out already, you can get the UTCID from their computer screen. But, if the second student sends a print job and then logs out (quite common when they’re in a rush), all you can do is click on random UTCIDs until you find the print jobs you’re looking for. This happened today around 1:00 and because the file was named something generic like “Document1” the student couldn’t find his print job. Granted, this is more of a behavioral issue (not logging out) than an tech issue, but it is worth knowing about.
(2) Second, all of the Library’s lap-tops will show up in GoPrint under a generic account called “Patron” Normally, this isn’t a problem but it can get tricky when multiple laptops send jobs to the printer at the same time. Will and Troy are working on a fix, so this should be resolved fairly soon.
