Hi Guys,
This is my second ref shift where the printer (right this time) jammed and re-jammed etc… Seems the problem is always with paper being added to tray 4. So at this point, I think we should not put any paper in tray 4 in general. I’ll put a sign on the right printer as a reminder. Lane put a sign in the left one already. Also–sometimes the problem is with a specific print job that just causes it to jam and jam and jam. You can’t have troy kill that job–he can only kill subsequent ones. Turning off the printer will kill that job.

Reference folks- please check the paper supply in both printers at the start of your shift and replenish as needed.
You can cancel a job without losing the subsequent jobs and without cutting the power. After you clear a jam, when the printer is whirring its wheels making sure the jam is cleared, you can hit “stop” then select “cancel current.” The printer will move on to the next job in the queue. The only time this is problematic is if the patron sends a whole slew of separate jobs that are all predisposed to jam. I find most jams happen because of 1. heavy ink/images and 2. printing double-sided (jams in the duplexer). I’ve also noticed that if I clear a jam and find that the printer is very hot (which happens this time of the semester, since the printers are constantly working). I will leave the three main doors opened for a minute to let it cool off–that tends to help prevent further jams.
