So, we’re working with the campus networking folks to resolve the intermittent database login problems that Charlie described in his earlier post. Here’s what’s happening:
- User attempts to go to one of our databases from an on campus computer.
- Ezproxy recognizes the IP address as being on campus and passes the user on to the database without requiring a login.
- In some cases (for example half of the users in a library instruction class), the user is then routed to a login screen for the database – implying that the database is not properly recognizing the ip as coming from our campus.
Charlie has worked with a couple of our vendors to correct IP address ranges but that doesn’t explain all of the problems we’ve been seeing. And, the intermittent-ness is making it super hard to troubleshoot. So if you or a patron experiences the problem described above, please contact [email protected] ASAP with the following information:
- The Public IP Address of the computer (search the term “ip” on Google — your Public IP address will appear above the search results)
- Date/Time the problem occurred
- Location of the computer
- Is the computer connected via a wired or wireless connection?
- Database being accessed
Thank you for helping us resolve this issue!
