Feb 11th from 11:30 – 12:00pm in the Commons, we’ll be offering a duct-tape rose making session. Our student worker Emily has agreed to offer the program (as she did last year) as a way for broke college students to have something cool to give their Valentine. We have duct tape in an assortment of colors, and everyone is welcome to drop in and make one. I’ll be placing a tent card on one of the Commons tables in the morning to “reserve” it from 11:30 – noon.
Valentine’s Buzzfeed Quiz: Starting later today, we will publicly share a Buzzfeed quiz (shout-out to Stacy who developed it) where users can discover what book they should be reading this year for Valentine’s day. There are 6 possible results, and we’ve made buttons that correspond to each of the results. Quiz takers will be directed to pick up a button at the Library. For anyone asking about the buttons at the desk, please encourage them to do the quiz. We also have colored-heart buttons available too that are not tied to the quiz, they’re just Valentine’s buttons (these are the same ones we offered last year). Take the quiz now!
Black History Month Special Event – Several cast members from By The Way, Meet Vera Stark will be in the Library theater on Tuesday Feb 16th from 5 – 6:30pm to talk about the play’s themes. Discussions will be centered on the history of race relations in theatre and film, and the personal history of the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright. Video clips from the play will also be shown. We’re partnering with the Theatre Club for this event.
Black History Month Movie Night – On Wed Feb 17th from 8 – 10pm we’ll be showing American Denial: The Truth is Deeper than Black or White. The Kanopy film is 55minutes long and will be followed by student-led discussions about current-day race relations in America and how that is related to what’s shown in the film. We’re partnering with the History Club for this event.
