Just a small heads-up for folks who care truly, madly, deeply about web analytics…
On September 7th, without any notice, a small bit of reference code in OU Campus (our main campus website CMS) was switched, that now points to a different instance of Tag Management for analytics. What this means – normal, out-of-the-box Google Analytics (page hits, length of time on page, etc) for our main library site still work. However, specializing event tracking, such as: tracking on clicks on links external to OU Campus, menu clicks, anything in the search box, accordion clicks, who clicks on what features in our promo boxes, etc… have ceased to work since then. Hotjar, which is a tool we use to show us video capture of patrons interacting with our website, as a consequence, is also broken. This is broken just for OU Campus, but not other content management systems, like LibGuides.
The person who made that change has been on vacation since we discovered this occurred, & we are waiting on his response, after he returns, to help us understand the how/why of this transition, & to make sure we get access to the new events tracking system.
