Library lets students pet Ira Glass to help de-stress during exams
VANCOUVER (The News Desk) — The University of British Columbia library announced today that for the next few weeks, students will be able to make an appointment with Ira Glass to help de-stress during exams.
Students are permitted to book up to 20 minutes with the This American Life host in one of the library’s study rooms.
The first group of students to play with Glass said the experience was positive and helpful.
“As soon as I finished my exam today, I came here, and boy am I glad I did,” said science undergraduate Henry Fung as he rubbed Glass’s belly and fed him treats.
“I’m already feeling the mental health benefits.”
“He’s so soft and his voice is so soothing,” said Joan Gossen while running her hands through the journalist’s hair.
“We should be able to do this all year round.”
Glass himself was excited about the program, claiming it was his way of giving back to young people.
“Nothing excites me more than helping younger fans, except for maybe getting scratched behind the ears, and I think this is a great way to combine those two things,” he said during a grooming break. ♦
