Per conversation w/Andy Carroll, we have removed ArcGIS from the library machines. Context as to why:
- Andy has been moved to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP).
- The GIS lab, now called the Interdisciplinary Geospatial Technology Lab (IGTLab), will provide expertise, hardware, and software for applied geospatial research projects.
- This new lab is located in SimCenter 102. It is open 8 am – 10pm when courses are not scheduled. It can accommodate up to 28 students. Access is coordinated through SimCenter admin staff. All departments and UTC faculty or staff or welcome to access the lab.
- Much of the software is moving into a hosted environment: http://www.arcgis.com/features/index.html. A majority of future users will access through a browser.
- Any requests for use of ArcGIS we encounter in the library should be directed to Andy at andrew-carroll@utc.edu. As other administrative aspects of ArcGIS are determined over the next year, he will be deciding the demand access across campus, as well as how to issue user accounts via licensing and installation.
