I looked and there is just no category to put this in…tonight we found an injured bat on the front portico. Initially I was just going to remove it myself, but instead called the Nature Center, Animal Control, and eventually the city police for advice/help. Apparently Animal Control will not touch bats and the city basically told me that it was on our heads if we removed it. Luckily for us, our Sunday UTC policeman came by just about then and offered to help remove the bat. I got him a box and he put it in one of the planters on the portico. It is still breathing and we are hopeful it is just stunned/scared and will be able to fly off in the night. I’m not sure what we are supposed to do if it does not as some might fear danger of disease. Crossing our fingers tonight and hoping the little guy recovers.
I checked all three planters this morning and did not see a bat.
While this would not have been much help over the weekend during the week if a bat is found, injured or not, you can call the Biology Department and they will come catch the bat and take care of releasing it in another area. I have done this twice when a bat was hanging outside the Library’s employee entrance.
