Hi Everyone,
I wanted to give everyone a little status on WMS. Here is where we are with the project:
- July 11 is the date for transition to WMS as our backend system for Acquisitions and Circulation. (Virtua will be used through Summer Semester for Reserves/Equipment check out)
- OCLC has begun migrating our data. Finally!! You will notice that searches in WorldCat and WorldCat Local do not presently yield any UTC holdings. Meaning when you search for a book in WorldCat or WorldCat Local, UTC will not show as owning the item. This will happen for even common titles like “Moby Dick.” That is because OCLC cleared all of our holdings data. When they reload all of our data, our holdings will be reset. So, use Virtua for searching physical items.
- Circulation/Access folks are reviewing all policies as they relate to circulation, reserves, notifications… that should be finished early this week. Additional training for access staff is being planned. So, look to hear from Colleen and Laird about new/refresher training.
- Acquisitions is moving forward with creating new ordering processes via WMS. Training on acq processes are continuing with Mat Processing staff. Training for liaisons will be determined once ordering process is in place. More at next faculty meeting on that.
- Reserves–Martha and Laird are working hard to recreate our current reserves system within the WMS framework. They are documenting workflows. Reserves policies are also being looked at and changes made in lieu of our new WMS system.
- WorldCat Local interface–the WC Local group met and determined that we would launch our new search with a tabbed approach. The default tab will be “Books.” There will be 1 or 2 additional tabs offering other search options to users. Brian will be working on mocking up options for the team to look at.
- WC Data–Andrea will be in the office a bit this week to finish up sending our data to OCLC. She is sending our CIRC data. This is our final data export to send to OCLC. Jason is continuing to work on our Patron Load file with the banner folks.
There is a lot more going on, but I don’t want to bore you. Please come by and let me know if you have specific questions. Thanks again for everyone’s patience as we have been working towards our initial implementation.
-Katie
