Noelle Currey, ’91 won the Tennessee Valley Association’s highest engineering honor—the 2020 Ike Zeringue Engineer of the Year award. A project engineer at TVA, she created a computer program—even though she’s not a computer programmer—to reduce design problems in electric panels. Currey calls the award “the biggest honor of my professional career.”



Beverly Edge ’94 has been hired as chief operating officer for HHM CPAs in Chattanooga.



Cody Harvey ’15 executive director of Morning Pointe of Chattanooga at Shallowford, received the UTC School of Nursing’s 2019 Outstanding Alumni Award.



First Horizon Bank has named Shelly Killian ’05 as the new commercial relationship manager of the Southeast Tennessee commercial group.



Joey Knox ’10, wrestling coach at Cleveland High School, was named Coach of the Year by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association.



Chase Manning ’09, ’12 has been promoted to principal at Dowdle Construction Group in Nashville, Tenn. He graduated summa cum laude with a Master of Science in Construction Management. He has been a project manager with Dowdle since 2013.



The International Parking and Mobility Institute named Isaiah Mouw ’07 as the 2019 recipient of the James M. Hunnicutt, CAAP, Parking Professional of the Year. He is vice president of Citizens Parking in Chattanooga.



Tera Roberts ’06 was named as the executive director of the Orange Grove Center in Chattanooga.



BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee promoted Mandy Savage ’98, ’00 to director of investment management and assistant treasurer.


Donyel Johnson Scruggs ’10, ’15 is the new chief development officer for the Boys and Girls Club of Chattanooga.



Eric Smith ’81 is now the deputy commander of Defense Logistics Agency Energy at Fort Belvoir, Va.


The Duck River Electric Membership Corp. Board of Directors has named Scott Spence ’96 as president and CEO for the member-owned electric cooperative in Sewanee, Tenn.

Alumni Affairs News

Longtime University of Tennessee system leader Lofton K. Stuart Jr. became interim vice chancellor for Development and Alumni Affairs at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Feb. 1. He will serve in his current, transitional role through the appointment of a permanent successor to Bryan Rowland, who stepped down in January.

Stuart retired in 2016 after a 43-year career with the UT System that included two stints as executive assistant to UT presidents—Joe Johnson and John Petersen—and various senior leadership roles with UT Alumni and Development. In those roles, Stuart advocated for and championed the same departments on campuses across the UT System.


In Memoriam


Eric T. Lane, a longtime professor of physics, passed away on Oct. 12 at the age of 81. He graduated with a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Physics from Rice University and a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University. He retired from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga after 37 years and had more than 40 years of total experience teaching both graduate and undergraduate students physics, physics laboratories, astronomy, computer science programming, math and chemistry.

Lane won several awards for groundbreaking Apple II animated waves and particles programs. He dedicated more than 65 years to understanding human nature and behavior, spending his last years helping people in numerous ways, especially wounded warriors with PTSD.
