Spring 2021 Virginia Peck Symposium on Research and Writing
Please don’t forget to register for the Peck Symposium on Research and Writing. In past years we have gathered regional teacher-scholars to middle Tennessee to build community around a workshop and keynote on research and writing from a celebrated speaker. Because the best part ofPeck is the opportunity to develop community with regional partners, instead of a more traditional digital meetup we will group interested participants in parties of four and invite them to mail writing, research, or a related artifact to the other members of their group. You might think of this as “pen pal” meets yet another pandemic-induced “innovation.”

Spring 2020 Virginia Peck Composition Series
Please be sure to mark your calendars for Friday, February 28 for the 2020 Peck Research on Writing Symposium sponsored by Middle Tennessee State University’s Department of English and the Virginia Peck Trust Fund. The purpose of this event is to engage with area writing faculty around current issues in the teaching of writing.
We are pleased to announce that we will host Dr. Tarez Samra Graban as our guest speaker this year! Dr. Graban is currently an Associate Professor of English at Florida State University, co-director of the Demos Project for Studies in the Data Humanities at FSU, and current president of the Coalition of Feminist Scholars in the History of Rhetoric and Composition. Her work has appeared in African Journal of Rhetoric, College English, Peitho, College Composition and Communication, and Rhetorica, and various edited collections. Dr. Graban will speak on two current projects that engage feminist and archival scholarship. Her lecture, “Rhetoric, Feminism, and the Transnational Archive,” will consider how feminist research agendas do or do not align in transnational archives, focusing especially at newly emerging post-colonized democracies in southern Africa and their representation abroad. Her workshop, “New Pedagogies for the Institutional Archives,” will consider the value of conceptualizing data discovery tools for feminist historiography, looking especially at the Linked Women Pedagogues Project.
After the morning session, please join us for complimentary lunch, an afternoon of Works-In-Progress presentations and breakout sessions based on participant interest, and finally, a celebratory reception. Registration will be open until February 14, but the number of spots is limited, so be sure to sign up early. Spring 2019 Virginia Peck Composition Series
Please consider joining us on Friday, April 5 for the 2019 Peck Research on Writing Symposium, sponsored by Middle Tennessee State University’s Department of English. This event has two purposes: 1) to engage writing faculty from area universities and secondary schools in considering timely issues in the research and teaching of writing, and 2) to bring together members of the Midsouth WPA affiliate of the Council of Writing Program Administrators for our annual meeting. This entire event is free, but space is limited, so each individual attendee must reserve a spot.
We are very pleased to announce that we’ll be welcoming Dr. Laura Micciche as our guest speaker this year! Dr. Micciche is currently a Professor of Rhetoric & Composition at University of Cincinnati and editor of Composition Studies whose works have appeared in WPA, College English, College Composition and Communication, Composition Studies, Composition Forum, and various edited collections. Her most recent book,2017’s Acknowledging Writing Partners, treats the genre of written acknowledgements as a lens for viewing writing as a practice of indebted partnerships. Dr. Micciche will be speaking to us about this fascinating research into the relationships that enable, empower, and encourage us to write.
The Symposium will take place on Friday, April 5th in the MT Center, located on the 1st floor of the Ingram Building, located at 2269 Middle Tennessee Blvd, Murfreesboro, TN 37130 from 8:30-3:00 with a complimentary reception afterward. A light breakfast and lunch will also be provided for all who attend.

This event has two purposes: 1) to engage writing faculty from area universities and secondary schools in considering timely issues in the research and teaching of writing, and 2) to bring together members of the WPA Midsouth affiliate of the Council of Writing Program Administrators for our annual meeting. We are pleased to announce that this year’s invited speaker is Dr. Christine Tulley, Director of the Masters in Rhetoric and Writing at the University of Findlay and author of the forthcoming How Writing Faculty Write. Learn how to purchase her new book.
The Symposium will be held at the Miller Education Center (parking is ample and passes are not required). Thanks to the generosity of W.W. Norton and Bedford/St. Martin’s, light breakfast and lunch will be provided at no cost to attendees. We do, however, respectfully request that only those certain to attend reply so that we will have an accurate headcount.
