Welcome back to another exciting semester at UTC! Our campus is buzzing with the energy of students returning, reconnecting with friends, and diving into their classes. Before we know it midterms will be here and students will be headed off to enjoy Spring Break.
This semester, we emphasize the importance of collaboration between families and students as we navigate changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The year 2024 is moving along quickly. We have seen temperatures so low that it was safer to stay indoors. As the year continues to move forward, stay safe and enjoy each day.
Due to unexpected delays we continue to encourage students to set up ACH/Direct Deposit for refunds through the student’s MyMocsNet account. This option is secure and provides the quickest access to funds. Paper checks are mailed to the permanent address on file, which can take 5-10+ days via USPS. If assistance is needed on adding the refund account information, please go to www.utc.edu/bursar, click the “Video Instructions” tab in the middle of the page and click on the video titled “Bursar Series: Direct Deposit.
If the Tuition Installment Payment Plan (TIPP) was utilized for the Spring Semester, the second payment was due February 1,the third payment is due on March 1 with final payment due on April 1. A late fee of $50 is applied on the 4th of the month if the scheduled payment is not received. Please note that an unpaid balance can affect future registrations. On April 2, a hold will be placed on accounts that still owe for Spring 2024.
The 1098T is now available on the student’s MyMocsNet account. This is a document that each student should have for tax related processes.

The Center for Academic Support and Advisement has begun offering peer-to-peer academic support programming! Support services are offered at NO COST to currently enrolled UTC students. All programs are internationally certified by CRLA or ICSI.
PACs are able to support students with improving success skills such as improved study habits, finding motivation, setting goals, time management, organization, navigating Canvas, and utilizing campus resources.
Students enrolled in a class with SI support are encouraged to attend twice weekly SI Sessions where an SI Leader reviews challenging course content in fun, engaging ways that help students form a deeper understanding of the material from new perspectives. SI Sessions often include games, extra practice material, discussions, simulations, study skill building, and interactive activities.
Free tutoring for a variety of courses is made available to UTC students through the Center for Academic Support and Advisement. Tutor.com and Residential/Walk-In Tutoring options are also available!

Important Housing Dates
The 2024-2025 Housing application is open for all students. Freshmen room assignments begin March 13 and Room Selection for returning students is March 19-22.
The summer housing application will open March 15.
Summer 2024 Conference Assistant (CA) applications will open soon! CAs help out with our camps and conferences that stay on campus during the summer. Benefits include free housing and $9.25 per hour during the time of employment. Check our facebook or instagram (@UTChousing) for application details later this month!

Housing Issues or Concerns
Please encourage your students to contact their RA or RD with any questions or concerns. From roommate conflicts to maintenance-related concerns, they are there to help. Please also have them check out the Housing Student Handbook that contains information on how to live in our residence halls.
If your student has a maintenance issue, have them fill out a maintenance request in Manage My Housing. If it is an emergency, have them contact their complex office or RA On Call.
Need help filling out the new FAFSA application?
Financial Aid and Scholarships staff, along with Mocs One Center team members, will be holding FAFSA Fridays in February. They will offer a series of in-person and online workshops to assist UTC students and their families with filling out the form.
Session dates: Feb. 2, Feb. 9, Feb. 16 and Feb. 23

The Office for Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavor (URaCE) has an exciting spring and summer ahead! Many programs will be available for undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing research and its various opportunities. Some of these include study abroad, federal work study, and our annual Spring Research and Arts Conference.

Summer Study Aboard Trip to Spain 2024
The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures is hosting a Summer Study Abroad Program in Alcalá de Henares (Spain). Located 22 miles northeast of Madrid, Alcalá de Henares is a UNESCO World Heritage Site acknowledging its history, its architectural beauty, and its academic legacy. Courses offered will embrace different aspects of language, culture, and literature, and include diverse content such as the arts, film, gastronomy, politics, and sports.
The program offers students two options:
- A one month stay: JUNE 2024 for 9 credit hours
- A two month stay: JUNE & JULY 2024 for 15 credit hours
Interested students may contact Dr. José-Luis Gastañaga (jose-luis-gastanaga@utc.edu) to discuss the benefits of a study abroad program and the details of this program in particular.
UTC Black History Month 2024 began on Thursday (Feb. 1) with a kickoff celebration in Lupton Hall for the campus community to enjoy!
The theme of UTC Black History Month is “African Americans and the Arts.” There will be emphasis on the transformative experiences created by African Americans – past, present, and future pertaining to the artistic expression. This month will showcase the intellectual and collective impact of African Americans in music, dance, art, fashion, literature, theater, film, storytelling, spoken word, poetry, song, entertainment, innovation, arts education, and more.

Is your student curious about a majors or minors offered at UTC? The Majors and Minors Fair is a great place to learn more from academic department representatives! All attendees are entered in a giveaway to win prizes from around campus and get some helpful resources to assist in a major change.
This event will take place on February 21 in the University Center, Tennessee Room from 1:00-3:00 PM.
