UTC Parents and Families,
As we enter the final month of the spring semester, it is a time of excitement, warmer weather, celebration, and is also often a time of increased stress. We care about supporting your student in finishing the semester strong and managing the normal stress that comes along with deadlines and exams. Here are some tips to reduce stress to discuss with your student to set them up for success!
- Prioritize sleep: All-nighters often end up hurting more than helping. Our brains and bodies need sufficient rest to perform at our best. It is recommended that we get 7-9 hours of sleep each night to allow our minds time to process the information we have learned and wake up ready to conquer the next day.
- Plan to take breaks: Create a list of all the tasks for Finals Week and then break them down into manageable chunks. Rather than cramming for hours with no breaks, we can reduce stress by giving our minds a reprieve. Plan to build in a five-minute break every half hour and allow for longer breaks every few hours.
- Do not skip meals: Nourishing our bodies with nutrient-rich foods and staying hydrated will keep us from feeling ill, which can add to stress. Regular meals also fuel our brains to function at the optimal level leading to better test performance.
- Check-in if the stress becomes overwhelming: The Counseling Center is a free resource on campus with walk-in appointments available. In the Center for Wellbeing, we offer health coaching, which is a non-clinical support that assists students in setting and working toward achieving wellbeing goals. Stress is the number one reason why students utilize a health coach on campus!
Be sure to follow the Center for Wellbeing on Instagram @utc_cw to engage with our Stress Awareness Month posts every day throughout April. We will be sharing more tips and reminders to support your student.
We recognize that families play a huge role in supporting their students throughout their college journey. We are here to support you as you encourage and guide them, ensuring they have the resources they need to thrive on campus. The UTC Parent and Family Association is a valuable connection point, providing information, referrals, and opportunities to stay engaged. Whether you have questions or need guidance, we are here to help!

Housing Survey
The Housing Survey is open through April 21. We value the opinions of our residents. Based off of feedback from previoius Housing surveys, we’ve been able to implement several changes— the Housing Lottery as a new assignments process, academic tutoring in the residence halls, and programs and activities that better meet student needs. We also have daily giveaways and the grand prize bundle giveaways, which include a $400 Housing scholarship. (May impact financial aid. Must be enrolled and living on campus for Fall 2025.) Have your student check their Mocs email for details on how to complete the survey.
Summer School Housing
Applications are open for 2025 summer school housing, available through Manage My Housing. Assignments start in early-April and continue through the summer.

Off-Campus Housing Support
As students are gearing up for their final projects, papers, and exams, some are still trying to sure up their housing for the Fall. If your child is in this situation and needs any help, please remind them that the Off-Campus Student Services office is here to help. My door is always open (Pfeiffer 207), my phone is always on (423-425-4252), and my email is checked frequently (ocss@utc.edu). Securing off-campus housing, demystifying the search process, and creating a stress-free off-campus housing journey is my goal. Be sure to check out our website (www.utc.edu/ocss) to find many resources, including a searchable marketplace of available units. Reach out any time with questions!
