UTC Campus Partners:
This fall, UTC is launching A Moc’s First Class, a retention effort to welcome incoming first-year students in partnership with Academic Affairs, Access and Engagement, and Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.
This one-hour session on Friday, Aug. 15, immediately follows Convocation and gives students a relaxed, meaningful way for students to connect with faculty the Friday before classes begin.
Now comes the fun part: We’d love for you to host one of the “A Moc’s First Class” sessions.
Here’s what it looks like: You’ll spend time with up to 25 incoming first-year students, host a welcoming activity, share tips to prepare them for the first week of college and help them feel a little more at home before the semester kicks off. It’s a simple but powerful way to create connections that really matter—and it’s great for student retention, too.
And yes—there will be food! Stick around afterward for a laid-back BBQ lunch with fellow faculty, campus leaders, and new students.
Schedule for Friday, Aug. 15
- Freshman Convocation: McKenzie Arena, 10-11 a.m.
- A Moc’s First Class: various classrooms, 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
- BBQ Lunch: Chamberlain Field, 12:30-2 p.m.
Informational sessions for A Moc’s First Class hosts will be offered in early August. To RSVP to host your A Moc’s First Class, please sign up using the Qualtrics Survey.
