The Commission on the Status of Women was established in 2019 at the direction of Chancellor Angle and is part of the campus’s focus on diversity, inclusion, and engagement at UTC. Over the summer, the Chancellor and Executive Leadership Team approved the Commission’s recommendations for 2022-23 work priorities: 1) explore alternatives to course learning evaluations due to biased nature towards women and minorities, 2) install changing stations in all family restrooms on campus, at least one per building, 3) provide more lactation stations on campus with signage in buildings and on campus maps, and 4) review the process for which all important university information is delivered to staff who role does not include a computer and/or they do not own a computer at home.
The Commission is also planning a series of book clubs this fall for The No Club: Putting a Stop to Women’s Dead-End work. Details forthcoming on how to sign up for a book club and join the campus conversation.
The Commission has 24 elected voting members and is led this year by Dr. Dawn Ford of HHP. The Commission welcomes your feedback; if you have any questions, comments, or ideas related to our priorities this year, please email Dawn-Ford@utc.edu or call 425-4216.
