In response to rising numbers of COVID-19 cases and newly updated University of Tennessee System guidance, UTC is modifying mask-wearing protocols on campus effective immediately.
Face masks must now be worn by everyone in all indoor public spaces on campus except when alone in private offices, residence hall apartments and rooms, while engaging in fitness activities and while actively eating and drinking. This change expands the August 2, 2021 requirement that called for masks to be worn in all classrooms, laboratories, and other instructional spaces. These protocols apply to all faculty, staff, students, vendors and campus visitors.
We will continue to work with the UT System to adjust COVID-19 safety measures as conditions change. The need for this expanded face mask mandate will be re-evaluated on or before September 7.
Any member of the campus community—faculty, staff or students (regardless of vaccination status)—who is experiencing symptoms, may have been exposed to or is being tested for COVID-19 should submit a COVID-19 Notification Form.
The COVID-19 vaccine is an important tool for preventing spread of the virus. I encourage every member of our campus community to get vaccinated. UTC provides free on-campus testing and vaccine clinics via University Health Services.
More information on mask-wearing and where to obtain a mask is available on the UTC Face Mask web page. Information on the University’s COVID-19 response and resources is maintained on the UTC COVID web page.
