The winners were:
Student Journalism- Best Feature Story, 1st Place
Mason Edwards, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Rising Rock
Judges’ Comments: This was a very well written piece telling a story of self acceptance without patronizing the subject. It was. compelling, sympathetic and painted a whole picture of an individual with differences who decided to capitalize on them. That the writer was neither condescending or judgemental added to the storytelling.
Student Journalism – Best News Coverage, 1st Place
The Road to the Medal, Honored Heritage, Uncle Doss’ Legacy
Caroline Colvin, Cassandra Castillo, Maddie Charnes, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Rising Rock
Judges’ Comments: Compelling stories, structured and informative writing. It is clear and concise in terms of the storytelling. Better than most professional news stories I’ve read.
Student Journalism – Best Student Journalist, 1st Place
Bethany Cothran, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Rising Rock/Echo
Judges’ Comments: Clearly a very determined and hardworking journalist, with an impressive variety of thoughtful work.
