Kaitlyn Borton, 2021 recipient of the Iphigene Ochs Sulzberger Scholarship for excellent performance in American history courses, on why she chose to major in history.
I chose to major in history because I have known that I wanted to work as a museum curator from a very young age, and I have always found it fascinating. Pursuing history offers a number of benefits, primarily allowing a broadening of one’s own understanding of the world and its complex social structures. Majoring in history has also allowed me to share this knowledge with others, and will allow me to inspire younger historians, hopefully impacting them the way that I was at such a young age. Being part of the UTC history department has been a great experience, and the professors will do whatever they can to guide you on your path as a historian. Receiving the Iphigene Ochs Sulzberger Scholarship has, above all else, allowed me to know that all of my hard work as a student has, quite literally, paid off.
