April 4, 2018. The Department of Health & Human Performance hosted an Open House & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the official launch of the Public Health program. Held during National Public Health Week, the Open House offered individuals from UTC and the local Chattanooga area the opportunity to learn about the field of public health and the vision of the program in educating our future students and working alongside our community partners.
The Open House welcomed more than 70 attendees comprised of UTC faculty and staff, current and prospective students, as well as community organizations. Attendees had the opportunity to meet one another, sample healthy eating options, and engage in activities related to public health. The event featured speakers including Chancellor Steve Angle, Dean Valerie Rutledge, Department Chair Marisa Colston, Program Director Mark Stoutenberg, and Dr. Greg Heath followed by short video clips from the American Public Health Association and the Resolve to Save Lives global health initiative. The event culminated with an official ribbon cutting, slicing of a custom-designed cake, and a toast officially celebrating the entrance of the program on the UTC campus.
Our gratitude goes out to the Health & Human Performance Department faculty and staff for their support, to all of the attendees, and to our graduate student leaders for their assistance in hosting a special night commemorating the beginning of the UTC MPH program!
