Kim Osment graduated with her MPH in May of 2022 and has since moved to Chicago. She currently works at Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center (ChicagoCAC) as their Communications and Marketing Specialist. ChicagoCAC is a non-profit that opened its doors in 2001 and is on the frontlines battling child sexual abuse in the city of Chicago. Their multidisciplinary and trauma-informed approach ensures that children who have been sexually abused only need to tell their story once and can begin to heal from the trauma they’ve endured. It was this mission and this work that attracted Kim to ChicagoCAC.
Kim was uniquely qualified for this role after her time at UTC by recognizing that intergenerational trauma and sexual abuse are a public health crisis. With this in mind, she is creating messaging and campaigns for ChicagoCAC that attracts donors and educates the public on child sexual abuse. Kim would like to especially thank Dr. Shewanee Howard-Baptiste and Dr. Marissa McElrone for their direct influence on her career. Without Dr. McElrone’s Maternal and Child Health class shaping her understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences and without Dr. Howard-Baptiste’s encouragement to take a victimology course in the Criminal Justice Department of UTC, Kim may never have been in the position she’s in now.
