Greetings, faculty!
Please see the list of announcements, funding opportunities, and resources below.
Announcements
- On Thursday, October 12, the UTC Research Institute will host a Brown Bag session on High Performance Computing Resources and On-Demand Resources. The event will be held in the UTC Library Room 435 from 12:30 – 2pm.
- Friday, October 22, 2023 will be the last day that the NSF fillable PDF format for the biosketch and current and pending support can be uploaded and submitted in research.gov. For proposals due October 23, 2023 or after, investigators must use SciENcv to prepare the biosketch and CPS forms. Having trouble getting set up in SciENcv? Help guides are available on ORSP’s webpage here. You can also schedule a consultation with a grant specialist here.
- NSF has updated their Public Access Repository (NSF-PAR) system with a new, streamlined submission workflow enabling NSF award recipients to add and manage journal articles, conference papers, conference proceedings, datasets, and workshop reports as separate and distinct products, and allowing products with a digital object identifier (DOI) from Crossref.org or DataCite.org to integrate seamlessly into the NSF-PAR. There are no changes to NSF’s Public Access policy or project reporting requirements. Visit the NSF Public Access Initiative page for additional information.
- NSF’s National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) offers 182 different data products, including biological, atmospheric, hydrologic and geographic measurements and observations, all of it fully open access. Read more about the available data here.
- The National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH) has released the 2022 dataset, with a broader range of data. NSCH is the largest national- and state‐level survey on the health and well‐being of children, their families, and their communities. Click here to access the 2022 dataset and learn more.
- Reminder – We want to hear from you! The Vice Chancellor for Research and ORSP are planning to support a site visit and networking opportunities with researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the UT – Oak Ridge Innovation Institute. We are seeking to gather information about faculty interests and preferences to help us plan for a site visit and other potential activities in 2024. Any UTC faculty member or researcher is eligible to participate. Please take a few moments to complete the brief survey here to help us schedule activities of interest to you.

Sponsored Projects Policy Spotlight: Effort Certification
Sponsored Projects Policy FI0215 lays out the policies and procedures for effort certification on sponsored projects and the roles of the PI and the department in this process. Curious why ORSP calculates salaries based on effort in proposal budgets? It’s to help you adhere to this policy!
