How long will it take to get results after a COVID-19 test?

Depending on the testing pathway used and on testing volume at the testing site, result times can vary. Barring extenuating circumstances, University Health Services anticipates most test results within 24 to 48 hours after specimen collection.

How quickly will COVID-19 test results come back once a student has been tested?

University Health Services staff expect results may be possible within 48 hours, but as more people are tested, the time required for test results can increase. Further, if supplies become more scarce, testing and test results may take more time.

Will COVID-19 testing be done on campus and free to students or will they have go to a local facility off campus or to the health department?

Testing will be available on campus at University Health Services and will be scheduled by calling the office. Students also may go to the health care provider of their choice or to the local health department in their area.

The self-administered test offered through the state of Tennessee Department of Health will be free. Those who are tested through University Health Services will provide health insurance information which will be sent to the lab running the test, and the lab will file the test with insurance carriers. Will there be more regular COVID-19 testing for students whose degree requirements have a clinical component requiring them to spend time in higher-risk environments such as K-12 schools or hospitals?

Not necessarily. Students will follow the requirements of the sites of their internships.
