Over spring break 2016, Department Head John Swanson led a study tour in Vienna and Budapest for the UTC students in his class on “Two Sides of the Iron Curtain: Making Documentary Film.” The students worked in pairs and made short documentary films exploring a series of historical and social issues in Austria and Hungary.

The Department of History held its 3rd annual African American History event on May 10, 2016 at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center. Against the backdrop of the Bessie’s new exhibit on “Negro League Baseball in Chattanooga,” a panel of community participants engaged in a candid but constructive discussion about the relationships – past, present, and future – among the Lincoln Park, Warner Park, Engel Stadium, and UTC communities.
