April is here, which means the end of the spring semester is drawing near! This time in the semester can be exciting and stressful. There are a few different ways you can support your students as they wrap up their spring semester. For students who are preparing to enter their career, this can be a nerve wrecking time. If this sounds like your student, UTC’s Career Connections is here to help them through this transition. Some of your students might be finishing their first full college semester, if your student is considering a change in major encourage them to speak with their academic advisor today.
All students are beginning to prepare for final exams and projects. Check in with your student to see what practical steps they are taking to succeed academically, manage stress, and recharge themselves. Spring Break has ended, and we are nearing the close of the Spring 2026 semester. Registration for Summer 2026 is currently open, and Fall 2026 registration will begin on April 8. Please ensure your student is aware of the important dates below to avoid having their classes canceled.

ACH/Direct Deposit is the fastest and most secure way to receive refunds, if applicable. We strongly encourage students to enroll in this option through their MyMocsNet account. Paper checks are sent to the permanent address on file and may take 5–10 or more days to arrive via USPS.
For those enrolled in the Tuition Installment Payment Plan (TIPP) for the Spring semester, the final payment is due April 1. A $50 late fee will be assessed on the 4th of the month if payment is not received. Please be aware that unpaid balances may impact future registration. Beginning April 2, holds will be placed on accounts with outstanding balances.

Fraternity and Sorority Life Spotlight: Preparing yourself and your Student for Involvement in UTC’s Fraternity and Sorority Life
The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga has multiple opportunities for students to get involved, one being through Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL). UTC has 22 active FSL chapters all from different councils and sub communities. Our FSL community is comprised of the Interfraternity Council (IFC), Multicultural Greek Organizations (MGO), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), National Panhellenic Council (NPC), and Special Interest Groups (SI).
Being a part of a fraternity or sorority life brings many opportunities both as a leader but also professionally. Each of the organizations have officer roles available that students can hold where they get experience in overseeing certain responsibilities, planning events, managing budgets and administrative tasks, and growing in leading a group of individuals. Students who participate in a Greek organization also get networking opportunities through alumni engagement which leads to higher rates of job placements. Students also get the opportunity to participate in community service initiatives and philanthropic efforts by volunteering their time and hosting events that raise money for their organization’s chosen philanthropy.
The academic support that students receive being involved in a Greek organization is also one to highlight. In order to be eligible for an initiation/bid to join an organization, a student must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA either from high school if they are a first year or from college if they are a returning student. It is also a requirement to be enrolled in 12 credit hours as a full-time student. Each organization then also may have their own GPA requirement as well. High academic standards are set for those in Greek Life and these standards are reflective in the data from the National Interfraternity Council (NIC) that says, “Similar studies show fraternity members are 20% more likely to graduate…” and our current UTC FSL All Member GPA average is higher than the UTC Undergraduate Average and has been the last four semesters.
Each council, sub community, and group have their own unique way of bringing in new members for their organization. IFC has a formal recruitment that takes place in the Fall around September. MGO and NPHC organizations will each do an intake process determined by the individual groups. NPC will have a formal recruitment process before classes begin from August 14-19, 2026. SI groups will each do their own individual recruitment process determined by the individual groups. As mentioned, there is a GPA and credit hour requirement to be eligible but students seeking membership also must be in good standing with the university as well. Membership will require individuals to pay membership dues which vary from chapter to chapter, attend required meetings, help in the recruiting process for their chapter, participate in community service/philanthropic efforts, and have the chance to go to sisterhood/brotherhood events.

Student Programs Survey
We need to hear from your students! How do they want to lead, engage, and connect on campus? Students are invited to complete a 5-minute Student Program Survey from the Center for Student Leadership, Engagement, and Community. Feedback will help shape leadership programs and engagement events hosted by the Center for Student Leadership, Engagement, and Community for the 2026–2027 academic year.
The first 1,000 currently enrolled students who complete the survey will receive a UTC giveaway item.
Student must complete the survey on MocSync before April 14 at 5:00 p.m.

Student Survey Opportunity!
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is inviting students to participate in the National College Health Assessment (NCHA), a confidential survey sponsored by the American College Health Association. The survey, which takes about 20–30 minutes to complete, gathers information about student health and wellness behaviors to help UTC improve programs and services that support student wellbeing. Participation is voluntary and responses remain confidential. Students who complete the survey will be entered into a random drawing for prizes, including a Nintendo Switch 2, gift cards, and other items. Campus support resources are available for students who may have questions or concerns related to survey topics.
Off-Campus Journey
April 2026
We have turned the corner, and the end is in sight…at least the end of the school year. For some, the question about housing for next year still looms. Never fear, Off-Campus Student Services (OCSS) is here to help. And there are still plenty of vacancies waiting to be filled by students. To help students navigate this journey, OCSS will be hosting several programming events this month:
April 7th: Tabling Event in Chamberlain Plaza – This is a chance to stop by and talk with someone from OCSS to learn more about our services.
April 8th: Off-Campus Virtual Roommate Fair – This is a chance for students to connect with one another to find potential roommates to help defray the costs of living in Chattanooga.
April 15th: Off-Campus Virtual Housing Fair – This is another chance for students to connect with our property partners to discover wonderful places to live for the next school year.
April 16th:Tabling Event in Chamberlain Plaza – This is a chance to stop by and talk with someone from OCSS to learn more about our services.

Scrappy’s Market
Students are encouraged to take advantage of Scrappy’s Market hosted by Scrappy’s Cupboard and Mocs Dining to get all their produce needs! Hosted every other week throughout the Spring 2026 term, Scrappy’s Market, is back and will be serving the UTC Community with free, fresh, produce! Chattanooga Area Food Bank will be joining us through the semester.

Housing Updates
Housing Applications
The 2026-2027 housing application is open. The next round of assignments for incoming freshmen, transfer and currently enrolled students will be April 8, after 5 p.m. EST. Students will receive more information about the assignment process in their UTC email accounts.

Summer School Housing
Applications are open for 2026 summer school housing, available through Manage My Housing. Assignments start in early-April and continue through the summer.
Residential Tutoring
Housing and Residence Life is offering FREE walk-in tutoring in the residence halls. For the full spring schedule, check our Facebook or Instagram pages: @utchousing.
Beat the Heat
RHA ‘s 5th Annual Beat the Heat will happen April 20, 3-5 p.m. on Chamberlain Field.
Housing Survey
The Housing Survey will be open in April. We value the opinions of our residents. Based off of feedback from previous Housing surveys, we’ve been able to implement several changes— the Housing Lottery as a new assignments process, academic tutoring in the residence halls, and programs and activities that better meet student needs. Have your student check their UTC email for details on how to complete the survey.
Spring 2026 Move Out
UTC Housing and Residence Life Residence Halls close on Wednesday, May 6 at 12 p.m. (EST). All residents must be checked out of their space by this time or 24 hours after their last final, unless they are graduating or transitioning to summer housing for summer school. Graduates need to be checked out by Sunday, May 10 at 12 p.m. (EST).
Here is what your student needs to know:
RAs will be hosting mandatory closing meetings March 29-April 5, 2026. Flyers will be posted, and emails will be sent. This will tell your student how to check out properly.
All residents are required to complete the “Checkout Process” form through Manage My Housing.
Pre-Checkout Questionnaire:
- Available Monday, March 30 and should be completed prior to check out
- Enter your Anticipated Checkout Date
- Discuss with roommates who will clean which areas of your apartment/suite, then enter the names for your Cleaning Agreement for the Bathroom & Common Area
- Sign up for a Checkout Appointment
- Pack, Study and Clean!
At Checkout Questionnaire:
- To be completed after you have cleaned, packed and are ready to turn in your key.
- Answer checkout questions
- Go to your complex office at your Checkout Appointment time and a staff member will go with out to your space to check it over
- Return your keys to staff member at the end of your space inspection
- Residents will turn in their room key and mailbox key to their complex office at check-out.
- Abandoned items will be discarded.
- Student should reference procedures given to them by their Resident Assistant to ensure a proper check-out.
Move out checklist:
- PACK: Take everything with you or donate to a local non-profit. Non-perishable food can be taken to Scrappy’s Cupboard, UC Room 399.
- CLEAN: Bedroom, kitchen, living room and bathroom.
- CLEAN & empty refrigerator. Do not defrost or disconnect refrigerators.
- Thermostat: Turn to cool, set to 72 degrees and set fan to AUTO.
- Clear balconies of plants, furniture, holiday lights, etc.
- Close and lock all windows and doors!
- Turn off all lights.
After Closing:
- Resident Directors will complete final walk-throughs of all rooms/apartments. Damage charges are assessed by the Resident Director at this time and emailed to the resident.
Housing Issues or Concerns
Please encourage your students to contact their RA or RD with any questions or concerns. From roommate conflicts to maintenance-related concerns, they are there to help. Please also have them check out the Housing Student Handbook that contains information on how to live in our residence halls.
If your student has a maintenance issue, have them fill out a maintenance request in Manage My Housing. If it is an emergency, have them contact their complex office or RA On Call.
