Greetings, faculty!
Please see the list of announcements, funding opportunities, and resources below.
Announcements
- We want to hear from you! The Vice Chancellor for Research and ORSP are planning to support a site visit and networking opportunities with researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the UT – Oak Ridge Innovation Institute. We are seeking to gather information about faculty interests and preferences to help us plan for a site visit and other potential activities in 2024. Any UTC faculty member or researcher is eligible to participate. Please take a few moments to complete the brief survey here to help us schedule activities of interest to you.
- On September 20, the UTC Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship will be hosting a talk with Dr. Kusum Rathore, the Vice President for the UT Research Foundation (UTRF). Dr. Rathore’s talk will focus on how UTC faculty can take advantage of UTRF’s services for research translation and commercialization. The talk will be held in Mapp Building Room 212 from 10:30am – 12:00pm. Register to attend here.
- On September 21-22, UTC will be hosting a UT-wide colloquium for Research Administration personnel. Please note that ORSP and ORI will be largely unavailable during the event and our response times may be delayed.
- Friday, October 22, 2023 will be the last day that the NSF fillable PDF format for the biosketch and current and pending support can be uploaded and submitted in research.gov. For proposals due October 23, 2023 or after, investigators must use SciENcv to prepare the biosketch and CPS forms. Having trouble getting set up in SciENcv? Help guides are available on ORSP’s webpage here. You can also schedule a consultation with a grant specialist here.

Funding Opportunities

The program is aimed at smaller projects with a 2-year duration. Assistant Professors who have not previously served as the PI or Co-PI of an NSF-funded project are eligible to apply. Having funding from other federal agencies does not exclude you from eligibility. The full solicitation is available here. Proposals are due on January 25, 2024. Please notify ORSP by October 16 if you are interested in applying to this opportunity.
NEW Limited Submission Opportunities – ORSP is accepting Notices of Intent for two limited submission programs:

Sponsored Projects Policy Spotlight: Direct vs Indirect Costs
Sponsored Projects Policy FI0206 lays out the policies for distinguishing between “direct” and “indirect” costs for federal and non-federal sponsors. Curious why we charge indirect costs (a.k.a. “F&As”) on proposals? It’s all in this policy! You can view UTC’s current indirect cost rate agreement here.
Best,
Ashley Ledford,
