Announcements
- ORSP hopes everyone has an opportunity to experience the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8. If you’re unable to leave the office or classroom during the eclipse window, catch NSF’s livestream of the event here, starting at 1:55pm Eastern.
- The 2024 UTC Spring Research and Arts Conference, sponsored by URaCE, will be held on Wednesday, April 10, in the University Center. See the full schedule here.
Reminders
- The April Meetup for Researchers will be held from noon – 1:15pm on April 12 in the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (2nd floor Mapp Building). The speaker is Dr. Charleson Bell, Hub Director of the NSF Mid-South I-Corps Hub and co-PI & State Director of the NIH Mid-South Research, Evaluation and Commercialization Hub at Vanderbilt University. - The Clarence E. Harris Chair of Excellence in Entrepreneurship is hosting AI Conversations: An Innovation Exchange between Campus and Community from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on April 17 at the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Mapp Building. Lunch is included; click here to register.
- The UT System has launched the Grand Challenge Grants program, soliciting proposals for innovative projects poised to impact one of three areas: Strengthening Rural Communities, Overcoming Addiction, and Advancing K-12 Education. The program is open to faculty and staff at all UT campuses. Visit the program webpage to learn more. Applications are due April 30. | NIJ FY24 Field-Initiated Action Research Partnerships | June 17, 2024 | This program requires a partnership with a local justice or service provider entity. Early career faculty are especially encouraged to apply. NIJ will hold a webinar on this solicitation on April 17, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. ET. Register here to attend. |
| NIJ FY24 Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative (CVIPI) Research and Evaluation | June 18, 2024 | Early career faculty are especially encouraged to apply. |
| DOD FY24 Defense Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (DEPSCoR) – Research Collaboration | White Paper: June 24, 2024 | Tennessee is a DEPSCoR-eligible state. The team must consist of two (and only two) individuals: 1) a tenured or tenure-track faculty member who has never served as a principal investigator (PI) on a prior DoD-funded award and 2) a collaborator who is tenured or tenure-track at their institution and has served as a PI on a DoD-funded research award actively between October 1, 2017 and September 30, 2024. Being a “Co-PI” or “sub-PI” on a prior DoD funded award does not count as being a “PI” for the purposes of eligibility of the Collaborator for the DEPSCoR-RC FOA. The proposal must align with one of the topic areas listed in the FOA. PIs must register on the RunGrants website no later than June 20, 2024. |
| NSF Cognitive Neuroscience | August 15, 2024 | Additional deadline February 3, 2025. PIs are strongly encouraged to submit a 1-page summary to the program director prior to submitting a full proposal. |
| NSF Accelerating Research through International Network-to-Network Collaborations program (AccelNet) | September 16, 2024 | Two track options (Design and Implementation). An individual may serve as PI or Co-PI in only one proposal, regardless of track. Implementation Phase 2 funding is only open to Phase 1 PIs. International collaboration is required. |
| NSF Probability | September 17, 2024 | The deadline is for research proposals only. Conference and workshop proposals should be submitted eight months before the requested start date. |
| NSF ECosystem for Leading Innovation in Plasma Science and Engineering (ECLIPSE) | September 30 – November 18, 2024 | Proposals should be submitted to one of the participating programs as described in the Synopsis. Deadlines vary by program. |
| NIH Notice of Special Interest: Women’s Health Research | Varies by NOFO | Proposals in response to this NOSI must be submitted to a current NOFO, including the R15 AREA or REAP programs. This NOSI applies to due dates on or after May 6, 2024, and subsequent receipt dates through November 4, 2027. For consideration under this NOSI, applications must have a central focus on the health of women, as demonstrated through specific aims that either explicitly address a particular condition in women or focus on one of the high priority topics listed in the NOSI. |
Sponsored Projects Policy Spotlight: Gift vs Grant
Gifts (including bequests) are monies or property given voluntarily, without expectation of return or compensation on the part of the donor. Grants, on the other hand, are monies or property awarded to the University with terms and conditions for the use of the funds/property. All grants must route through the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. Review the Determination Matrix for assistance in determining whether your funding is a grant or a gift.
