Greetings, faculty!
Please see the list of announcements, funding opportunities, and resources below. Archives of previous updates are available on ORSP’s blog.
We wish you all the best of luck with finals, grading, and end-of-semester activities!
Announcements
- On Monday, April 29, UTC is hosting two sessions on “Applied AI: Making the Technology Work for You,” led by AI expert Dr. Jules White of Vanderbilt University. The session tailored to faculty will be held at 10am in the UC Auditorium. Learn more here.
- The NEH is hosting a webinar on the Summer Stipends program at 2pm on May 15. Register to attend here. This program has a limited submission requirement (one per institution) so look for an announcement about the internal selection process after the new NOFO is released June. You can read more about the program and previous awardees here.
- The new Common Forms required for NSF Biosketch and Current and Pending Support documents are now available in SciENcv. If you are submitting a proposal to NSF due on or after May 20, 2024, you must use these forms to prepare your personnel documents. Research.gov will prevent upload of the older NSF templates in SciENcv beginning May 20.
- The US Department of Energy will host a webinar for early career scientists entitled “Grant Writing Tips and Insights” at 1pm ET on May 30. ORSP encourages anyone who is new to DOE to attend. Learn more and register to attend here.
- The US Management and Budget Office (OMB) has released updates to the Guidance for Federal Financial Assistance (aka, Uniform Guidance), effective October 1, 2024. Changes to UT Policy and UTC procedures are expected as a result of this change. Stay tuned for additional communication on these changes in the coming months.
Reminders
- The UT System has launched the Grand Challenge Grants program, soliciting proposals for innovative projects poised to impact one of three areas: Strengthening Rural Communities, Overcoming Addiction, and Advancing K-12 Education. The program is open to faculty and staff at all UT campuses. Visit the program webpage to learn more. Applications are due April 30.

If you are interested in applying to any of the opportunities below, please notify ORSP at least 4-6 weeks in advance of the deadline. Proposals with fewer than 5 business days notice may face barriers to submission. More information about ORSP’s proposal development timeline and services is available here.

Sponsored Projects Policy Spotlight: Direct vs Indirect Costs
Sponsored Projects Policy FI0206 lays out the policies for distinguishing between “direct” and “indirect” costs for federal and non-federal sponsors. Curious why we charge indirect costs (aka, “F&As”) on proposals? It’s all in this policy! You can view UTC’s current indirect cost rate agreement here.
