Announcements
- Federal agencies, such as NSF, NIH, and DOE, are updating their policies regarding research security training. To comply with these changes, UTC has launched a Research Security Training module in K@TE that meets the federal requirements. ORSP will begin requiring all named investigators (PIs, Co-PIs, and Other Senior Personnel) to complete this training module before a research proposal can be submitted or a research award can be processed on/after the effective date for each agency. If you are currently working on a federal research proposal and are impacted by this requirement, your Grants Specialist will reach out to you with instructions. In the meantime, ORSP encourages all faculty and staff involved in federally sponsored research to complete this training well in advance of any planned proposal submissions. Please reach out to eco@utc.edu with any questions about the training. This new requirement does not apply to non-federal proposals (of any type) or federal proposals that are not research-based.
- The DASH Research Export Control Town Hall will be held on September 23 at 10am. All faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. More details, including the agenda and access link, are available on the DASH Research Export Control Community site.
- If you are or anticipating working on an IRB protocol, ORI recommends submitting any IRB applications by September 30, 2025. Any submissions that are not approved by 5pm Eastern on October 21 will not be moved to DASH Research IRB and will need to be re-submitted in DASH Research IRB after go-live on November 10.
- The Clarence E. Harris Chair of Excellence in Entrepreneurship in the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Gary W. Rollins College of Business invites proposals for the Mocs Innovate mini-grant program. See details in the Internal Grants section below.

Sponsored Projects Policy Spotlight: Direct and Indirect Costs
UT Policy FI0206 outlines what can be included as a direct cost in a sponsored project budget and establishes the requirement for all proposals to include the maximum allowable indirect costs (aka, “F&As”). You can view UTC’s current federally negotiated indirect cost rate agreement and the distribution model for F&As here.
