Announcements
- NSF’s Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR) policy has been amended to require mandatory RECR training for faculty and other senior personnel in addition to trainees who will be supported by NSF to conduct research, effective July 31, 2023. UTC’s RECR policy has likewise been amended to comply with these new guidelines, and these new requirements will be implemented immediately for new awards. If you are working on an NSF-funded project but have not completed the mandatory RECR training, you must do so before July 31. It is strongly encouraged for anyone who is applying to NSF, but who has not yet been funded, to complete the training, as well. For more information see ORI’s RECR webpage or contact rcr@utc.edu.
Funding Opportunities
- There are a number of NSF opportunities for early career faculty. Eligibility criteria vary by program. Click the links below to learn more about each one:
- Engineering Research Initiation (ERI) – due September 15, 2023
- Computer and Information Science and Engineering Research Initiation Initiative (CRII) – due September 20, 2023
- Launching Early Career Academic Pathways in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences (LEAPS-MPS) – due January 25, 2024
- EDU Core Research: Building Capacity in STEM Education Research (ECR: BCSER) – due February 23, 2024
- Early career and more tenured faculty alike may also consider the NSF EArly-concept Grants for Exploratory Research (EAGER). This is a special type of proposal that supports exploratory work for “untested, but potentially transformative” avenues of research. Concept Outlines for EAGER proposals may be submitted at any time. See the PAPPG for more information.
- NEH Dialogues on the Experience of War – due September 7, 2023. This program supports projects that engage military veterans and nonveterans in seminars or collective/public discussions about military service and war-related experiences. A virtual Q&A is scheduled for 1:00 pm Eastern on June 29 and can be joined from the program page. NEH program officers will review and comment on drafts submitted by July 27.
- NEH Archaeological and Ethnographic Field Research – due September 28, 2023. This program supports humanities-centered field research utilizing archaeological or ethnographic methods. A pre-recorded webinar is available on the program page.
Sponsored Projects Policy Spotlight
UT Policy RE0001 details our policy for Responsible Conduct in Research and Scholarly Activities, the types of activities this policy applies to, and procedures for research misconduct investigations. In addition to the standard RECR training required for NSF, USDA, and NIH-supported personnel, UTC maintains a Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) membership which provides training courses in a range of research-related topics.
