- Broader Impacts Development Opportunity: NSF’s Directorate for Biological Sciences (BIO) is hosting a Virtual Office Hour on Broader Impacts on Wednesday, June 7 from 2-3pm. While examples will be BIO-focused, the advice should translate to other directorates. Click here to register. If you can’t attend or want to explore resources on broader impacts sooner, check out the ARIS website and ARIS Broader Impacts Toolkit. These resources are not specific to any particular directorate.
- Reminder – The Spring 2023 NSF Virtual Grants Conference will be held during the week of June 5 – 8, 2023. This is an excellent resource for faculty who are new to NSF, but there will also be sessions of interest to NSF aficionados. Click here to view the agenda and register to attend. Sessions will be recorded for those who cannot attend.

DCL Conference Proposals for Clean Energy Topics
NSF has released a DCL seeking conference proposals on high-priority, energy-related topics. A full list of topics is provided in the DCL here. The first step is the submission of a concept outline. A minimum of one PI and one co-PI must be associated with a concept outline. An individual may appear as PI, co-PI, Senior Personnel, or Consultant on no more than two conference proposals submitted in response to this DCL. The concept outline must be submitted by June 30, 2023 to be considered for this DCL.
NSF Convergence Accelerator – 2023 Cohort
The Convergence Accelerator program brings together stakeholders across academia, industry, government, nonprofits, and other sectors to address challenges of national importance through human-centered research designs and team science. This solicitation will fund Phase 1 projects focused on one of the following track topics: Track K: Equitable Water Solutions; Track L: Real-World Chemical Sensing Applications; and Track M: Bio-Inspired Design Innovations. See the full solicitation here for more information. Required Letters of Intent are due July 11, 2023. There are no institutional limits; however, an individual may serve as PI or co-PI on no more than two Phase 1 proposals.
NEH Public Humanities Projects
The program awards funding for planning and implementation projects that offer public-facing, humanities-based programs. Project categories include exhibitions, historic places, and humanities discussions. The NOFO, program webinar, FAQ, and sample funded proposals are available here. Proposals are due to NEH by August 9, 2023. A second round of proposals will be accepted in January 2024.
Sponsored Projects Policy Spotlight: Conflicts of Interest
UT Policy #GE0002 explains the UT Conflict of Interests Policy, provides examples of conflicts of interest and includes information about faculty and staff reporting requirements and links to the Outside Interest Disclosure Form that all faculty and staff should complete annually. This disclosure process helps the University identify and manage conflicts between employees’ outside interests and their University responsibilities. This is especially important for faculty and staff who are participating in sponsored projects.
ORSP reviews each participating individual’s OID form at the time of proposal and again at time of award. Each individual must have an OID form on file that has been reviewed and approved within the last 12 months. Even if you have no changes to report, a new form must be submitted each year. Note that disclosing an activity does not imply wrongdoing, nor does a disclosure mean that there is a conflict—it simply helps the university identify any perceived, potential, or actual conflicts that may need to be managed. When in doubt, always disclose an outside interest or activity.
