Greetings, faculty!
Please see the list of announcements and funding opportunities below.
Announcements
- The University has published a revised systemwide Fiscal Policy on Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) (commonly referred to as “Drones”): Fiscal Policy FI0137. This revised policy replaces Safety Policy SA0950. Most drones are subject to export control regulations as noted in the policy. The regulations apply to many commercially available items. Providing controlled items to restricted foreign individuals in the US is viewed by the government as a “deemed export” equivalent to shipping the items out of the country. Deemed exports are a common risk at universities due to the international diversity of faculty and students. To ensure that appropriate measures are in place to secure controlled hardware, please contact the UTC Export Control Officer at eco@utc.edu for more information.
- NIH has launched a new webpage for Early State Investigators with sections on the relevant policies, help determining ESI status, and more.
- The National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics has released a new report on the representation of women, minorities, and persons with disabilities in STEM.
Funding Opportunities
- The NSF CAREER program is open to Assistant Professors whose research aligns with NSF’s funding areas. The program requires a well integrated plan for research and education activities over the next five years. Prior funding does not necessarily disqualify you from applying. An eligible PI may submit only one CAREER proposal per annual competition and participate in no more than 3 competitions total. The full solicitation is available here. Templates and other resources are available on ORSP’s CAREER webpage. Proposals are due July 26, 2023. Please let ORSP know by March 1 if you’re planning to submit a proposal this competition cycle.
- Relatedly, the Engineering Directorate will be hosting a CAREER proposal workshop on May 8, 9, and 12. The workshop will feature mock proposal reviews by panel, interactions with ENG Program Directors, focus sessions with recent CAREER awardees, and interactions across disciplines and engineering schools nationwide. Click here to register by March 17.
- NASA has released the 2023 solicitation for the Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) program. The full solicitation is available here. Deadlines vary by subprogram. A full list is available here. If you’re interested in submitting a proposal in response to this solicitation, please notify ORSP at least 2 months before the deadline, where possible.
- REMINDER – All faculty-led proposals to theUT Alliance of Women Philanthropists Circle of Giving program must be routed in Cayuse SP by close of business on Monday, February 20. If you are planning to submit a proposal and have not reached out to ORSP, please do so immediately.
