Awards
Dr. Ahmed Eltom (Electrical Engineering) has received $712 from the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association for the project entitled, “2017 Lab Demonstrations for Tennessee Valley Public Power Association.”
Dr. June Hanks and Dr. Catherine Smith (Physical Therapy) have received $1,000 from the Tennessee Physical Therapy Association for the project entitled, “Cross-Cultural Adaptability Study (US-DPT and Haitian PT students).”
Dr. Robert Webster (SIM Center), Dr. Kidambi Sreenivas (Mechanical Engineering), Dr. Craig Tanis (Computer Science & Engineering) have received $421,997 from the Engility Corporation for the project entitled, “Heterogeneous HPC for High-order Stabilized Finite-elements on Moving and Deforming Domains.”
Mr. Andrew Carroll and Mr. Charles Mix (Vice Chancellor for Research) have received $22,214 from the Mainspring Conservation Trust for the project entitled, “Mainspring Conservation Trust – Application Development.”
Dr. Pamela Guess (School Psychology) has received $800,000 from the Tennessee Department of Education for the project entitled, “School Psychology Intern Program.”
Dr. Marcia Noe (English) has received $6,000 from the Society for the Study of Midwestern Literature for the project entitled, “Society for the Study of Midwestern Literature Journal Editing.”
Ms. Belinda Lee Brownlee (Center for Community Career Education) has received $7,783 from the US Department of Education for the project entitled, “UTC Upward Bound Program.”
Dr. Zibin Guo (Sociology) has received $58,000 from the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs for the project entitled, “Wheelchair Tai Chi Program Expansion.”

Dr. Neslihan Alp and Dr. Aldo McLean (Engineering Management & Technology) have requested $586,997 from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled, “2+2 MET: Developing an Industry-Responsive Mechatronics AAS to BAS Pipeline for Engineering Technicians.”
Dr. Kay Cowan, Dr. Lucien Ellington (School of Education), and Dr. Michelle Deardorff (Political Science & Public Service) have requested $74,994 from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission for the project entitled, “American and World History: Critical Turning Points.”
Dr. David Ferrier and Dr. Katherine Rogers (Psychology) have requested $224,811 from the Foundation for Child Development for the project entitled, “In Loco Parentis: The Impact of Teachers and School Contexts in Socializing Social-Emotional Competence and Self-Regulatory Abilities in Early Childhood.”

Ms. Laurie Melnik, Ms. Michele Mummert (Southeast Center for Education), and Dr. David Ferrier (Psychology) have requested $99,614 from the Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood for the project entitled, “Preliminary Proposal – MOCS BLOCS.”
Dr. Allen Pratt (School of Education) has requested $608,372 from Mississippi State University for the project entitled, “National Research and Development Center – Improving Rural Education in the Deep South, Appalachia, and the Montana Frontier.”
Dr. Donald Reising and Dr. Thomas Loveless (Electrical Engineering) have requested $2,762,747 from the Department of Defense, Defense Advanced Research Project Agency for the project entitled, “Radio identification from unbiased deep learning models (RIFUDLM).”
Ms. Carolyn Runyon (Library) has requested $96,890 from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission for the project entitled, “Opening Access: Building Finding Aids for the Chattanooga History Collections.”
Dr. Mina Sartipi and Dr. Dalei Wu (Computer Science & Engineering) have requested $145,155 from the Sony USA Foundation Inc. for the project entitled, “Millimeter Wave Communications for Enhanced Vehicle Connectivity.”
Dr. Gary Wilkerson (Health & Human Performance) has requested $99,546 from the International Olympic Committee Medical and Scientific Commission for the project entitled, “Neuromechanical Responsiveness Testing and Training.”
Dr. Gary Wilkerson (Health & Human Performance) has requested $180,688 from University of Arizona for the project entitled, “Head Trauma: Measuring the Relation Between Cognitive Processes and Neuromechanical Function after Sports-Related Concussion.”
Dr. Weidong Wu, Dr. Ignatius Fomunung, Dr. Joseph Owino, and Dr. Mbakisya Onyango (Civil & Chemical Engineering) have requested $2,500 from the Structural Engineers Foundation for the project entitled, “Developing Matlab Apps for Interactively Teaching and Learning Design of Reinforced Concrete Structure.”
