October 30, 2015!
Last year, the UTC Honors College hosted the first ever UTC Honors Homecoming Gala. 50 some Brock/UHON/University Honors alumni (plus partners/spouses/significant buddies) ate hors d’oeuvres, drank drinks, collected funky wine glasses, and spent major catch-up time with their fellow UTC Honors alumni in the beautiful Lindsay Street facility right off campus. We showed pictures of what a renovated Guerry Center Honors College might look like, updated everyone on what we’d been working on, and presented Dr. Joanie Sompayrac (1987) with the inaugural Sompayrac Distinguished Alumni Award for extraordinary and ongoing service to the honors community at UTC. John Schuster MC’d and and Brock Scholar Ann Manning played music. It was a good time and we were especially fortunate to have three generations of Brock/UHON directorship there—Dr. Bob Fulton, Dr. Gavin Townsend, and Dr. Greg O’Dea. It really was fun. I even bought a new dress for the occasion.
This year, we’re at it again: the UTC Honors Homecoming Gala will be on Friday, October 30, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. at the Waterhouse Pavilion. Please come play with us! Mutterings of masques and themed table-conversations have been heard in the Reading Room; whatever it becomes, the Gala (as we call it) will surely be a wonderful way to see friends old and new and explore our speedily developing campus. For anyone with remaining, ongoing, or new burning questions about what we’re doing over here and why, we will meet a bit before the Gala to have a full conversation in the Reading Room. Besides myself, Greg, and Debbie, we may well introduce you to some of our new folk and certainly some of our current Brock Scholars. The whole day and night promises to be meaningful, memorable, and big fun. Look for updates on Facebook about the Gala, but save the date today! Remember that the Mocs will take on someone on the field the next day on Halloween proper. If you have specific thoughts as to what you’d like to see happen, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We look forward to seeing you here!
