Early English Books Online contains about 100,000 of over 125,000 titles listed in Pollard & Redgrave’s Short-Title Catalogue (1475-1640) and Wing’s Short-Title Catalogue (1641-1700) and their revised editions, as well as the Thomason Tracts (1640-1661) collection and the Early English Books Tract Supplement. This collection provides incomparable research assistance for scholars of English literature, history, philosophy, linguistics, theology, music, fine arts, education, mathematics, and science.
The first collection, Early English Books I (1473-1640), includes early editions from classics such as Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, originals versions of early public documents, as well as a host of religious materials. The second collection, Early English Books II (1641-1700), contains a larger body of texts in the arts, sciences, popular culture, and women’s studies.
EEBO continues to fill in the gaps of materials as these items are scanned from microfilm.
