Fall is football in the dirty South. Actually, football shares fall with apple cider, hayrides, pumpkin patches, camping, and the changing colors of the leaves, but in the hearts of many, outranks them all. Football games have the ability to conjure a strong sense of nostalgia in the hearts of fans. Some think of letterman jackets, pom-pom wielding cheerleaders, everyone in school colors roaring for the team. Modern SEC football is a different beast from yesteryear, but small town colleges and universities still have some of that old-school charm.
The above photo was taken in 1919 of the University of Chattanooga’s football team. Times have changed since this photo was taken but I think our university, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, has managed to hold on to that old-school charm. For that intimate, nostalgic experience, come out and support UTC’s team (or your favorite small-town college team) for their season opener on Saturday! Go Mocs!

Love your old photos! This team picture was probably taken at Chamberlain Field, which was the second oldest college football stadium in use at the time Finley Stadium was built in 1997. The remaining South grandstand will be torn down soon, giving way to some kind of monument. How about a collection of action pictures taken over the years at this historic site?
Speaking of action, Finley is the site for what will be the first major upset of the college football season, as the Mocs and Appalacian State Mountaineers do battle at 3 p.m.
UTC 24 App. State 17!

This old photo of the Football team looks amazing. It is really awesome how the uniform and the equipment has changed over the past decades. Thanks for posting this amazing posts as I love reading to all of them and learn. Kudos!
