I will admit to you that, first and foremost, I am a science dork. Recently, I decided I would take a stroll through our Rare Book Room and see what we had that pertained to my personal interests. Suffice it to say, you will be subjected to many more posts on science/rare book dork-ery.
The above illustration is a pull out diagram from the book A View of Sir Isaac Newton’s Philosophy by Dr. Pemberton. The book details Dr. Pemberton’s explanation of Newtonianism, especially written for a general audience without mathematical training. Pemberton was a close friend of Newton’s and was invited by Newton to edit the third edition of the Principia.
Our volume is from 1728 and is in beautiful condition. The pages are crisp and clean and all of the original pull out diagrams remain. Diagrams like this were often cut out of the original books and framed, therefore it is rare to find an intact volume.
