Admittedly, one of the indirectly cool things about working in a library is being here when it’s empty. Not because librarians flip the space into an ultra-exclusive nightclub, play large scale games of hide-and-seek, or have book fights. No, we would never do that (well … maybe the hide-and-seek). Also, it’s not because I want to have the place to myself. That’s boring and I love the buzz and hum of a busy library. Instead, it’s because the library — our big, quasi-Brutalist concrete home that welcomes hundreds of people for 16 hours a day — sits empty and serene as though it’s resting.
Back in February — before tornadoes, floods, and generally soggy days — sunshine and a touch of warm weather broke through the winter blues. It seemed like a good time to snap a few shots before work. Take a look (click on images to enlarge) and let us know how you see the library and which aspects of the space are your favorites.
