During the 2013/2014 school year when she was teaching in the English Department, Sara Coffman had an idea about sharing her love of reading with the rest of campus. Her fantastic suggestion led to the creation of UTC READS, where faculty from departments all over campus share some of their favorite titles with the rest of the UTC community. Although she’s not currently teaching at UTC, Sara’s legacy remains on campus in the form of UTC READS.
About her list, Sara Coffman says:
I believe that a love of reading comes in all shapes and forms. Sometimes what I fall in love with is serious and thoughtful like Marilynne Robinson’s Gilead, and sometimes it’s high-action, high-interest like Veronica Roth’s Divergent or James Dashner’s The Maze Runner. Other times, it is a book written for children like Catherynne Valente’s The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making (one of the best books I’ve read in awhile no matter the genre or audience). Of all of these, though, if I could press one book into your hands, it would be Cheryl Strayed’s Tiny, Beautiful Things. Just read it. And if you want to share thoughts on these books or any others, you can find me at wordyevidenceofthefact.blogspot.com
