On March 24, 2018, students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida organized demonstrations in Washington, D.C. and more than 800 cities in the United States, including Chattanooga, Tennessee. Local efforts to join the March For Our Lives movement were led by Chattanooga Students Leading Change, Chattanooga Moms for Social Justice, the Chattanooga chapter of Moms Demand Action, and a group of local clergy, gathered at 10 A. M. in Coolidge Park and marched to the Hamilton County Courthouse.
On the anniversary of the demonstration, we are pleased to announce the Chattanooga Gun Violence Activism Oral Histories digital collection. The oral histories document the efforts of Chattanooga Students Leading Change (CSLC) and experience of one gun violence survivor.
We thank Cassandra Montgomery, a local gun violence survivor, and the the activists in Chattanooga Students Leading Change and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America for sharing their stories.
