London has been in the news quite a bit lately and, therefore, has been fairly prominent in my thoughts (escalating violence in London, “London Calling” announced as the 2012 Olympic theme song, etc.). In reprocessing a collection that we hold, I came across the above image and thought that it was timely. John Rous, White House News Photographer for the Associated Press during 6 presidencies, took this photograph of Winston Churchill and President Eisenhower at an undisclosed location and date. Rous captured many such compelling images during his tenure and bequeathed these photographs to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The Associated Press still holds the copyright on these images and we are not allowed to present them as a digital collection online. We do occasionally exhibit them and they are available for viewing in the Special Collections. Come by and visit us and relive both private and public moments of Presidents Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy, LBJ, Eisenhower, and Nixon as well as images of celebrities and royals.
